Man charged with DUI after horse and buggy crash
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he struck a horse and buggy from behind.
On Tuesday, June 21 around 7:08 a.m. the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6500 block of Morgantown Road in reference to a vehicle vs horse and buggy accident.
Authorities stated that a 2019 Toyota Tacoma driven by Daniel Pierson, 25, of Huntsville Quality Road area did not observe a horse and buggy driven by a 15-year-old from the Lewisburg area and struck the back of the buggy.
No injuries to the drivers are reported at this time, according to the sheriff’s office. However, the horse sustained an injury to the leg, and the buggy was heavily damaged and towed from the scene.
During the investigation, deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside Pierson’s truck, according to authorities. The sheriff’s office stated that a vehicle search found suspected marijuana visible in plain view, about 1.9 ounces of marijuana located in separate baggies and several other items containing THC, along with other paraphernalia.
Authorities also stated Pierson was determined to be under the influence.
Pierson was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, first offense, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance, first offense.
Pierson was lodged at the Logan County Detention Center.
