Locals get excited to watch the 2022 World Cup
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Soccer fans from every nation have been waiting for it since 2018.
“It’s been exciting to watch USA play and it only happens every four years so everyone’s excited to watch the games,” said fan Manny Garcia.
“Pretty much four years that you’re waiting for it so everybody’s really excited,” said Pub by Novo manager Perry Bargery.
The 2022 world cup, held in Qatar, is finally here. 32 teams from around the world will compete across 64 matches, trying to claim the title as world champion.
Garcia is from Puerto Rico, and his father is from Mexico…he doesn’t miss a single match.
“Me personally, it’s always like a great way to kind of unite, worldwide everything, no matter what conflicts going on, seeing the top players at the high level is amazing, seeing stuff happening, losing, some upsets,” said Garcia.
The World Cup is the most widely viewed and followed sporting event…viewership in the hundreds of millions.
People can catch the games locally in town…sports bar and restaurant Pub by Novo has been a hot spot for the fans.
“We have a big crowd, on Monday we had a bunch of people watching USA play we’ve had the games on every day, people are coming on enjoying good food, drinks, good vibes and everything like that,” said Bargery.
The cup wraps up with the final on December 18th-fans will have to wait another four years for the next cup. But, this time it will be a little closer to home.
“2026 is gonna be in the United States, gonna be Canada and Mexico so I’m definitely planning on doing a good trip and watching a few games,” said Garcia.
