Local students get watermelon in their meal delivery with the help of volunteers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Local Bowling Green City School children received the usual Thursday meal delivery with a special addition this morning.

Need More Acres farm provided 1,000 watermelons to deliver to families for this week’s food supply drop off with the Bowling Green Independent School system according to Dalla Emerson, the director of food service operations for the school.

Because of the additional food’s weight and size, the school district reached out to the public for volunteers to load buses and drop off the meals.

A local mother, Reina Lopetegui, says the meal drop offs are very exciting for her and her son.

Bowling Green Independent Schools will be delivering watermelons in next week’s drop off as well and need volunteers then as well.
