Local officers gather to raise a flag for national police week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week is National Police Week and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with other local police agencies to honor those with a badge.

Friday morning, two Bowling Green Police officers performed a flag-raising ceremony to memorialize this year’s National Police Week and to remember and honor those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives.

Several local law enforcement agencies along with the nearby drug task forces were in attendance.

The ceremony started off with a prayer, followed by the flag raising and concluded with Sheriff Brett Hightower reading off a list of officers who have been injured or killed in the line of duty.

Hightower says the reason he wanted to hold the ceremony was because he noticed no one else was hosting anything for police week in the area.

Hightower says after the year of police brutality concerns and the division occurring in the nation, this was a chance for police to have each other’s backs.
