BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – News 40 brought you coverage of last month’s My Old Kentucky Throwdown at Spencer’s Coffee.

The annual barista competition didn’t only award a $1,000 prize to the winner, along with other cash prizes for second through eighth place. According to a social media post by the business on Tuesday, the event raised more than $1,500 to benefit a local nonprofit, The Hive, Inc.

The Hive works to create opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Participants came from states including Alabama, Tennessee and Missouri to compete in the latte art competition, all supporting a good cause.

The event featured a $10 entry fee for competitors, and Spencer’s hosted a raffle during the competition. Each raffle ticket cost $2, with all proceeds benefiting The Hive.

A total of 33 competitors turned out for this year’s competition.
