Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 Traffic Impact Report for May 2 – May 7
The District 3 area serves Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, Todd and Warren Counties BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (May 2, 2021) – The expected traffic impacts in the District 3 area for May 2 through May 7 are listed below. All work is subject to change.
The additional lane closures on Interstate 65 southbound between mile marker 27 and 13 in Warren County scheduled for tonight have been postponed due to weather. The roadway in this section will remain down to two lanes and the schedule for the additional lane closures has been revised.
The width restriction of 20 feet in the southbound direction between mile marker 25.2 and 13.7 is still in place. Each lane is reduced to 11 feet as well. The lane closures and width restriction is necessary for a project to rehabilitate and resurface I-65 in this section.
There is rain in the forecast for other days this week, so the schedule could change. The revised schedule for the additional lane closures as of now:
Monday (May 3)
I-65 southbound will be reduced to one lane in the area between the 27 mile marker and the 13 mile marker from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Lane switching will also take place for motorists within this section. Crews will be working close to the roadway and with a one-lane road, traffic is expected to be backed up. Motorists should use extra caution, watch the road at all times and avoid distracted driving. Slowed and stopped traffic is expected.
Tuesday (May 4)
I-65 southbound will be reduced to one lane in the area between the 27 mile marker and the 13 mile marker from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be working close to the roadway and with a one-lane road, traffic is expected to be backed up. Motorists should use extra caution, watch the road at all times and avoid distracted driving. Slowed and stopped traffic is expected.
Wednesday (May 5)
I-65 southbound will be reduced to one lane in the area between the 27 mile marker and the 13 mile marker from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Crews will be working close to the roadway and with a one-lane road, traffic is expected to be backed up. A project to upgrade the Interstate 165 interchange with U.S. 231 Morgantown Road at Exit 7 in Bowling Green has started. Motorists have been switched to the new ramp to I-165 northbound. The improvements to the interchange are part of the I-65 Spur requirements that upgraded the William H. Natcher Parkway to I-165 William H. Natcher Expressway in 2019. The current ramps were designed in a cloverleaf formation that serviced the old tollbooth plaza that no longer exist. New ramps will be constructed as a standard diamond interchange with upgraded LED lighting. The old ramps will be removed once construction of the new ramps are complete. The current bridge will remain and no new bridge is being built. Motorists should expect lane closures and lane shifts that will take place at different times throughout the construction process. The exit and bridge will remain open through the entire construction period.
KY 585 Old Franklin Road (mile point 7) – Construction of the new low water crossing on KY 585 at Trammel Creek as begun. The road remains closed at the low water crossing at Trammel Creek. The construction is expected to be complete later this spring or early summer. The detour of KY 622 and KY 100 remains in place. The construction is expected to take approximately 60 working days.
U.S. 31-W Louisville Road (Mile point 0.00 to 6.8) – Contractors will continue working on a pavement repair and resurfacing project along Louisville Road beginning at the Edmonson/Barren County Line and extending north to KY 90. Flaggers will be present to maintain traffic through the work zone.
US 68X – West Main Street/ East Main Street/ North Broadway – A new pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing project is set to begin along West Main Street beginning at the intersection of US 31-E and extending east to East Front Street. Contractors will begin making pavement repairs between U.S. 31-E and N. Race Street. Lane closures and traffic delays are expected from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please use caution while traveling in this area.
KY 3519 (mile points 0.0-0.2). – Currently working on sidewalk ramp upgrades around the square Flaggers will be present during working hours 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
U.S. 79 (mile point 1 to mile point 4) – Resurfacing is complete, but some finishing work remains. Expect one lane road during from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the week next week.
KY 234 – Crews are working on a Highway Safety Improvement Project on KY 234 between Hunts Lane and Sherwood Drive. Improvements are also being addressed between Hunt Lane and the Allen County line. Crews have been trenching to make the roadway 1 foot wider on both sides from Roger Porter Road to Hunts Lane. Trenching will take place from Hunts Lane to Allen County beginning next week. Motorists should expect lane closures and construction zones throughout the entire length of the project. Please slow down and use caution.
U.S. 231 Scottsville Road – Work on a project to improve the U.S. 231 Scottsville corridor between the Greenwood Mall entrance at Bryant Way and KY 884 Three Springs Road is expected to increase next week. Lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. are possible in this section. Motorists should expect lane closures on U.S. 231 Scottsville Road from the Greenwood Mall entrance to Cave Mill Road. The project will add turn lanes on Cave Mill Road and on Scottsville Road to Cave Mill Road. The entire project is expected to be completed later this summer.
