Kentucky State Police sexual assault investigation team receives $172,000 in federal grant funding

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Andy Beshear announced the Kentucky State Police will receive more than $172,000 in federal grant funding to support sexual offense investigations.
According to a release, the federal funding, originating from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, will enhance the KSP Sexual Assault Kit Initiative’s work to analyze sexual assault kits and DNA testing to identify suspects.
The U.S. Department of Justice funds the SAKI grant program.
The program provides financial support to jurisdictions across the United States to address the backlog of untested sexual assault kits, investigate and prosecute cases, and support victims of sexual assault, according to the release.
The governor’s office says KSP SAKI has received more than $4.8 million in federal grant funding since its inception in 2021.
