Jury selection begins in Profitt murder trial

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Jury selection begins Tuesday morning in Warren Circuit Court in the murder trial of a Bowling Green man accused in the 2023 death of his girlfriend.

Twenty-eight-year-old David Profitt is charged with murder, first-degree strangulation, abuse of a corpse, theft by unlawful taking of an automobile and multiple counts of second-degree forgery, along with persistent felony offender status.

The charges stem from the August 2023 death of 22-year-old Alexandra Hemmann, who was found inside her Winners Circle apartment after friends requested a welfare check, according to court records and prior testimony.

Investigators testified during earlier proceedings that Hemmann was last seen with Profitt on Aug. 3, 2023. Her body was discovered days later in a locked bedroom after officers forced entry into the apartment, where they reported signs of decomposition.

Police said both Hemmann’s and Profitt’s vehicles were missing when the investigation began. Authorities later located Hemmann’s car in Indiana using license plate reader data, and Profitt was arrested at a Topgolf in Fishers, Indiana, with additional evidence recovered in the Indianapolis area, according to testimony.

During a preliminary hearing, a Bowling Green Police detective testified that Profitt allegedly confessed to strangling Hemmann.

The case has faced multiple delays since Profitt’s indictment in October 2023, including previously rescheduled trial dates due to court scheduling conflicts and witness availability.

During a hearing Monday, attorneys also discussed redactions of certain information ahead of trial proceedings.

Profitt is being represented by former Warren Circuit Judge Steve Wilson, who is now serving in a public defender role with the Department of Public Advocacy.

Jury selection is set to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Warren Circuit Court at the Warren County Justice Center.
