Jody Richards Elementary holds bus driver appreciation day

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Jody Richards Elementary School is giving back to bus drivers in a big way.

The school held a bus driver appreciation day.

“We need to say thank you for driving us cuz it takes a long time to get to our houses,” said student Milli Williams.

They’re not only giving back in a big way, but a delicious way too…staff served the students lunches in boxes that looked like school buses.

“Peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich on wheat bread. Baby cut carrots and I also got some yummy broccoli,” said a student.

“It’s been great being here all morning watching the kids driving the school buses down the serving line saying beep beep and having a bunch of fun,” said WCPS Director of Nutrition and Dining Kelly Holt.

WCPS wanted to show their bus drivers how much they appreciate their hard work.

“They greet them with a smile and a hello. I hope you’re having a great morning and they send them off the same way at night. I hope you have a great night, I’ll see you tomorrow. They give them something to look forward to. They know they can trust their bus driver to get them safely to a place they wanna go, which is school and home,” said Holt.

They even invited the bus drivers to the school to have lunch with the kids.

“It’s just exciting to know that people have noticed that you love the kids and you take your job seriously and we do it because we do love the kids,” said WCPS bus driver Rose Wheat.

The bus drivers definitely leave a lasting impact on the students they drive.

“When I grow up I’m gonna be a bus driver,” said student Rex Cren.
