Soldier dies in off-duty shooting incident at Fort Campbell

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) — Officials say they are investigating the death of a soldier in an off-duty shooting at a sprawling Army post on the Kentucky-Tennessee borderline.

Fort Campbell officials say Spc. Brittney Niecol Silvers, of Jacksonville, Florida, died in the shooting Sunday.

Silvers was an automated logistical specialist in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. After joining the Army in 2011, she completed training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and Fort Lee in Virginia, and served several years at Fort Hood in Texas. She came to Fort Campbell in 2016.

Silvers was posthumously promoted to sergeant and received the Army Commendation Medal.
