SAN DIEGO (AP) — Louis Oosthuizen has repeatedly put himself in contention at majors with his syrupy swing and easygoing nature. The South African did it again at this year’s U.S. Open, building a two-shot lead after a birdie at the 10th hole. When Jon Rahm birdied his final two holes, Oosthuizen needed a birdie in his final two to tie. Instead, he bogeyed the 17th hole after pulling his tee shot left into a canyon and came up a shot short. Oosthuizen finished second in a major for the sixth time since winning the 2010 British Open.
