Namath excited for Wilson, says Jets fans ‘deserve’ a title

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets have been on a mostly fruitless search for the next Joe Namath since he last played for the team in 1976. Zach Wilson was the No. 2 overall pick in April and will likely become the 35th player since the days of Broadway Joe to start a game for the Jets when New York kicks off its season at Carolina on Sept. 12. Namath likes what he has seen and heard about Wilson but cautions that the Jets need to improve everywhere, not just at one position. He says Jets fans deserve the chance to celebrate another championship soon.
