ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Veteran slugger Khris Davis has been designated for assignment by the slumping Texas Rangers. Davis hit only .157 with two homers and five RBIs in his 22 games since missing the first 34 games of the season with a left quad strain. He has a $16.75 million salary this season. Texas recalled Eli White from Triple-A Round Rock. General manager Chris Young says the team needs to find out about its young players. The Rangers got Davis just before spring training when they traded longtime starting shortstop Elvis Andrus to Oakland. Young switch-hitting catcher Jonah Heim also came from the A’s.
