Kentucky Derby winner Authentic wins Horse of the Year honor

Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Authentic was honored as Horse of the Year at the 50th annual Eclipse Awards. The ceremony on Thursday night was held virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic. Trained by Bob Baffert, Authentic received 224 out of a possible 238 first-place votes. Monomoy Girl finished a distant second with seven votes. Two other Baffert horses won — Improbable was honored as older dirt male and Gamine won as female sprinter of the year. Baffert was nominated as trainer of the year, but lost to Brad Cox.
