Dutch bar owners, sex workers protest against virus lockdown

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — Some Dutch cafe owners have symbolically opened their outdoor terraces in a protest against the government’s coronavirus lockdown. Sex workers also are planning a demonstration later Tuesday because the government has kept them in lockdown while allowing other “contact professions” to welcome customers from Wednesday morning. The protests come amid growing lockdown fatigue not only in the Netherlands but across the Europe Union, where 515,000 people have died in the pandemic and governments are still attempting to rein in new infections while slowly ramping up the pace of vaccinations.
