How to remain aware of dangers during road flooding

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As rainfall continues and roads may flood in the local area, it is important to remain safe and informed as you reach your next destination.

As recent as Monday, Murphy Road and Marty Drive were closed to traffic due to flooding in Warren County. Those roads have since reopened, however, it’s best to remain aware no matter where your trip takes you.

Drivers are advised not to try to cross roads covered by water, as their cars could become submerged. It is important to remember if you encounter a flooded road to turn around and find an alternate route.

It only takes 6 inches for a car to become submerged and get stuck in water. Furthermore, standing water that accumulates is also dangerous since there is no way of knowing what lies under the water.

Warren County Emergency Management encourages citizens to keep up to date on social media as it tries to post daily updates of conditions throughout Warren County. The county also posts updates of road closures on its socials.

“The county always posts, you know, what roads are closed. Here at the EM office, we try and post infographics or if there is a flood warning, those kind of things just staying up to date with National Weather Service,” said Nicholas Zrelak, meteorology intern at Warren County Emergency Management.
