Hilltopper softball sweeps Friday doubleheader against UTEP

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Hilltopper softball continued the trend of winning conference matchups at home, adding a pair of wins to its record against UTEP on Friday at the WKU Softball Complex.

Game one featured a strong start from in the circle by Erica Hogue, who tossed a shutout against the Miners.

The matchup only lasted five innings as WKU won via the run-rule 9-0.

Offensively, the Tops blasted three home runs en route to the victory, with Kendle White, Annie White and Morgan Sharpe all boosting the new single-season record set by the team on Wednesday.

Game two also had strength from the bats, seeing Maci Masters ignite things with a grand slam in the first inning.

WKU would finish with seven runs and starting pitcher Rylan Smith would finish with 10 strikeouts, dominating the back half of the doubleheader against the Miners offense.

Although the second matchup would go all seven innings, it still was a convincing 7-1 win for the Hilltoppers.

WKU improves to 32-10 overall (14-6 CUSA) and will have the day off on Saturday before wrapping up the series with UTEP on Sunday.

First pitch at the WKU Softball Complex is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
