FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear announced over $1.3 million in state grant funding for waste reduction projects in 30 counties Tuesday.

Beshear says 36 projects will be funded across the state, focusing on recycling waste tires to improve the durability of products for playgrounds and public parks, according to a release.

The projects will produce benches, picnic tables, poured-in-place surface playgrounds and landscaping.

Beshear says the funding comes from the Waste Tire Trust Fund. The fund receives fees collected on new tire sales and manages approximately 5 million scrap tires generated each year, according to a release.

The City of Munfordville will receive a $24,424 grant for 8 park benches and 16 picnic tables to be installed at Green River Park and Arboretum.
