MAYFIELD, Ky. (KFVS) – On Friday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear dedicated five new homes for some of the survivors of the deadly 2021 tornado in Mayfield.

The Hope Initiative built the homes, which cost over $5 million.

The Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund provided $500,000 toward that cost.

Each family received welcome home kits from Kroger, and they included food and cleaning supplies.

Beshear says the new homes signify hope for Mayfield.

“As we are here dedicating five new homes this morning, the city of Mayfield has moved from building homes to building neighborhoods,” Beshear says. “There is real hope for this city.”

A total of 57 people were killed when the powerful EF-4 tornado ripped through Mayfield on Dec. 10, 2021.
