Glasgow community dedicates building to Kentucky’s first African American mayor

GLASGOW, Ky. – A local legacy is going down in history thanks to a dedication this weekend of the Luska J. Twyman Administration Building.

On Saturday, the community of Glasgow gathered to celebrate and honor the life of Mayor Luska J. Twyman. The city says Twyman was “a devoted educator, World War II veteran, trailblazing public servant and Kentucky’s first African American mayor.”

City officials say his leadership and commitment to Glasgow shaped it into what it is today.

“We are grateful to everyone who joined us, especially Dr. Koffi Akakpo, President of Kentucky State University, for sharing meaningful remarks, as well as Mayor Twyman’s family, friends, and all who came to honor his legacy As we look ahead, may this building serve as a lasting reminder of Mayor Twyman’s dedication to serving others and inspire future generations to lead with integrity, compassion, and a heart for community,” the city stated.
