Gas leak reported at WKU campus, dorm evacuated

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A dorm was evacuated Wednesday morning at Western Kentucky University’s campus due to a reported gas leak.

According to Bowling Green Fire Department Public Information Officer Elyse Jonker, a confirmed gas leak occurred on site.

Jonker says Atmos Energy is on site monitoring and has the leak under control.

Jonker says a dorm building, Zacharias Hall, was evacuated. According to fire personnel, the leak occurred outside of the dorm but next to Zacharius Hall, leading to a precautionary evacuation.

Fire personnel say the dorm is back open.

The Bowling Green Fire Department is still on site at this time.
