Fruehauf planting roots in Bowling Green, creating 300 new jobs
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-One of the world’s best-known semi-trailer manufacturers, Fruehauf, is planting roots here in Bowling Green.
“It’s thrilling. And it’s showing that Kentucky and Bowling Green are proving that manufacturing is back,” said Governor Andy Beshear.
The company’s decision to manufacture in Bowling Green marks its return to the United States after moving their operations to Mexico in 1997.
“It shows that they love us. It shows that they want their families to grow here. They want to build their homes here, they want to build their community here and they want to be a part of us. They see we’re different than other places they could’ve gone because they could’ve gone anywhere,” said Bowling Green Mayor Todd Alcott.
The company will create nearly 300 local jobs and have an over $1 billion economic impact over the next decade.
“We just walked in the number 17 trailer that was built right here with Bowling Green hands and in Bowling Green, Kentucky,” said Alcott.
And adding to the excitement of boosting logistics in the Commonwealth… is President Biden’s announcement of $7.4 million in federal funding for Kentucky’s rail infrastructure… which will directly benefit businesses like Fruehauf.
“Every investment in transportation and supply chain for transportation helps Kentucky. We can reach 60% of the United States in a one day drive which is a reason we see this facility or other logistics facilities,” said Beshear.
An interesting fact about Fruehauf… the company’s creator, August Fruehauf, is the inventor of the commercial trailer and was inducted into the automotive hall of fame in 2017.
