Floodwaters lead to apartment evacuation, water rescues in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Amid flash flooding Monday morning in Lexington, streets have turned into rivers, and parking lots have become lakes.
That’s according to a report by LEX 18, which stated emergency crews have responded to several water rescues, including at an apartment complex on Press Avenue that had to be evacuated.
The report further stated scanner traffic has been filled with calls about individuals trapped in vehicles and stuck in high water.
LEX 18 said Lexington fire crews stated they were dispatched shortly before 7:45 a.m. CST to an apartment complex due to water rising and surrounding the building. Upon arrival, the report stated floodwaters had entered the first floor, however, five residents reportedly evacuated safely with life vests.
Following the evacuation, LEX 18 states the residents exited to see a flooded parking lot.
