FEMA offers free legal services and crisis counseling for tornado survivors
BOWLING GREEN, Ky- For those who were affected by the December tornados, FEMA is providing new ways to help out.
They are offering free legal advice and crisis counselling for the survivors within the Southcentral Kentucky region.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and FEMA have activated a disaster helpline for Kentucky tornado victims. The helpline phone number is 877-782-4219.
Is it open Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. If you need to leave a voicemail, include your name, county you are located, and describe your tornado-related legal problem.
FEMA Media Relations Specialist Issa Mansaray explained why this is a great resource for vulnerable residents and tornado survivors to use.
“This is a facility that is for them, for those that have been affected by these tornadoes. They can walk in, ask questions and also review the application process. So let them use this time to come in and also ask for legal aid and legal assistance,” Mansaray said.
The deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance is Friday, February 11th.
