UPDATE: 1 person dead following Nelson Co. crash, man charged with murder

UPDATE (5/16/26) – Kentucky State Police Post 4 is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Nelson County.

KSP responded to the crash on Friday afternoon at Shepherdsville Road (KY 245) near the 3945 block in Bardstown.

According to a KSP release, 51-year-old Teudis Hernandez, of Louisville, was driving southbound on KY 245 when his SUV crossed into the northbound lanes.

Hernandez’s car struck a car driven by 79-year-old Edward Hovan, of Coxs Creek, head-on.

The Nelson County Coroner’s Office pronounced Hovan dead at the scene.

Hovan’s passenger, 71-year-old Christine Hovan, of Coxs Creek, sustained severe injuries. She was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

Following an investigation, Hernandez was arrested and charged with murder, assault, 1st degree, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substances, 1st offense and operating on a suspended or revoked license, failure to produce an insurance card.

The investigation is ongoing.

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – A fatal crash has been reported Friday evening in Bardstown, according to police.

In a social media post, the Bardstown Police Department says it is currently working a fatal collision with multiple injured on Highway 245 by Handy Food Mart.

Police say only one lane will be open at this time.

Drivers are advised to use caution and plan accordingly.
