Farmers hold meeting for land preservation in Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Farmers and local leaders met at the Warren County Extension Office Tuesday night to talk about the importance of preserving land in Warren County.

Jennifer Tucker, co-owner of Tucker Farms, says one of the biggest threats to agriculture is urbanization. Tucker says growth is great, but there needs to be more of a conversation.

Representatives from Kentucky Farm Bureau, American Farmland Trust and Soil Conservation Districts of Kentucky have speakers at the meeting.

Tucker says by preserving land for farmers, this maintains food security and a rural environment in the county. It also keeps farmers from losing their livelihood.

“Once we lose this farmland, production farmland, there’s no getting it back. And now with the growth of Warren County it’s very hard for a farmer to compete with builders and developers when purchasing this land,” said Tucker.
