Edmonton Senior Center celebrates Older Americans Month

EDMONTON, Ky. – Communities across south-central Kentucky are celebrating Older Americans Month by recognizing the impact senior citizens have on the region.

On Tuesday, the Edmonton Senior Center hosted an open house and proclamation signing, giving community members a chance to learn more about the services available to seniors.

Officials say senior centers play an important role by providing hot meals, social activities, wellness programs and meal delivery services.

Leaders say Older Americans Month is also an opportunity to highlight the contributions seniors make to their communities while connecting them with valuable resources.

“Sometimes as we get older, our social circles get smaller,” said Eric Sexton, executive director of the Barren River Area Development District. “Centers like the one in Edmonton are a vital part of the community because they give people a place for fellowship, connection and support.”

Similar events were also held this week in Monroe and Allen counties, with another open house scheduled Wednesday at the Glasgow Senior Center.
