Edmonson County Vietnam Veterans honored during ceremony

BROWNSVILLE, Ky.- On Friday, dozens of Vietnam War veterans joined together to commemorate National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

A few dozen individuals joined one another for a ceremony and lunch at the Brownsville Community Center.

The get together was sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans organization.

Several guest speakers were on hand, including Edmonson County Judge-Executive Wil Cannon, and State Rep. Michael Meredith.

During the ceremony, the names of those from Edmonson County who never returned from Vietnam were read aloud.

Those who did return say they were never treated and respected like they are now.

“When we came home, we didn’t get the recognition that we give the ones coming home now and the ones before us,” said Jack Hasty, a Vietnam War veteran from Edmonson County.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day was proclaimed March 29, 2012 by President Barack Obama.
