Edmonson County Parks and Rec to receive $1.4 million in state funding to renovate park
EDMONSON COUNTY, Ky. – Edmonson County will soon see some major improvements to a park on Mammoth Cave Road.
State Rep. Michael Meredith was able to secure just over $1.4 million in state funding to renovate four baseball fields. These fields date back to the 1980s and have seen little upgrading since then.
The annual budget for the Edmonson County Parks and Recreation is around $200,000 to split between three different parks dotted throughout the community.
This $1.4 million grant that was awarded will be used just for Highway 70 Sports Complex and will make a huge difference for those that use the fields.
“Take that and divide that between three parks and maintenance and and minor renovations and things like that. You know, it’s it’s enough to get by. But with no major upgrades. I’ve been in this role just a little over two years. So obviously I’ve tried to do a few things here and there and try to find a project every year that I can do that makes a little bit of a difference. But this getting this money, from the state, it’s really just going to expedite our plans,” said director of Edmonson County Parks and Rec Cody Stewart.
The money will go toward updating the fields, adding a new scoreboard, stands, fences and other expenses to bring the fields to their fullest. The renovations is expected to begin sometime after the little league season around the beginning of July and is expected to be completed in the fall.
