Deep freeze: spring snow hits midwest

(NBC News) Heavy snow and high winds have put spring on hold in the Midwest.

Minnesota drivers are being urged to stay off the roads.

Highways in South Dakota littered with stranded vehicles as well, with drivers warned of road closures.

In Michigan, homes near Houghton Lake are inundated by ice.

“The wind or storm comes, and that’s all it takes, and it breaks it up and shoves it wherever the winds blowing,” says Kevin Korbinski.

Residents say the ice piles haven’t been this high in at least a decade.
