City of BG hiring new Afghan Community Navigator
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-A brand new position has been created to help the transition of Afghan refugees to our community.
The City of Bowling Green Neighborhood and Community Services is looking to hire an Afghan Community Navigator.
Over the past year, 354 Afghan refugees have resettled here.
The position was made possible by a $150,000 grant from the Open Society Foundation out of New York. $60,000 will go to the position and the remaining $90,000 will go to refugee programs like English language education, driver’s licenses and workforce and employment services.
The department is looking to hire someone who is an Afghan refugee and considers themselves a leader in the community.
“By having someone that you relate to that speaks the same language that you do, helping you navigate the resources that already exist, and very similar to the position with my city as a liaison is to be a connector and that’s what we hope they do,” said International Communities Liaison Leyda Becker.
The application is open until the position is filled. You can apply online here.
