Charles Black Park in Morgantown is now under renovation
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In a story we first brought you two years ago, the Charles Black Park in Morgantown is now under construction.
A $3.5 million project is underway at the city’s park.
The funding partially comes from a 3% tax put on restaurants in the city back in September of 2019.
With the new park renovations underway, the public can expect the park to be completely shut down for another year.
According to Morgantown Mayor Billy Phelps, demolition just began.
Phelps said the park will have new fields, a concert stage, new pavilions and more and said the new construction was desperately needed for safety reasons.
“It’s all coming back brand new. That’s part of what we’re doing. You’ll see the roads behind me and we take it down pavilions and multiple different things and it will be redone and hopefully bigger and better. It’s a major project for the City of Morgantown. It’s actually the largest project the city of Morgantown has ever undertaken,” said Phelps.
According to Phelps, the renovation will bring people to the park and boost visitors in the city.
Phelps said the pool will be closing next week and he expects the park and pool to reopen by June.
