Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce dedicates the Barren River Bridge to the late Mike Murphy

BOWLING GREEN, Ky,- On Dec. 11, 2025, the Bowling Green community mourned the loss of local leader Mike Murphy.
Now, just months later, his legacy will continue to live on through a bridge he helped bring to life.
On Wednesday, community members gathered to officially dedicate the Barren River Bridge in Murphy’s honor, recognizing his lasting impact on Bowling Green and Warren County.
Murphy’s family, members of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, employees from Scott, Murphy & Daniel, and community leaders came together to share stories and reflect on his contributions.
State Rep. Kevin Jackson said he hopes the bridge will remind people of the impact Murphy had on the community.
“A smile will come to our face when we think about all the good that a man like Mike Murphy has done for this community and for each of us as individuals,” Jackson said.
Murphy was known not only for his work in construction and development, but also for his generosity and commitment to improving the community around him.
Family members also remembered his sense of humor during the ceremony.
As the memorial bridge sign was unveiled, attendees realized it had accidentally been placed upside down — prompting laughter from the crowd and a comment from Murphy’s daughter, who joked, “It’s Murphy’s Law.”
“As serious as Dad could be sometimes, he always had time to make a joke,” said Cole Murphy, Mike Murphy’s son. “I’m sure he would’ve loved that moment.”
Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman reflected on the impact Murphy left behind.
“He was someone who saw greatness in other people and wanted to help grow it,” Gorman said. “There was truly a hole left in the heart of Bowling Green when he passed away, but today is a special opportunity to honor him.”
Leaders say the bridge dedication serves as more than a memorial — it’s a reminder of the legacy Murphy built through his work, leadership and investment in the community.
