Police in Ocean City are working to identify the man found in the surf early Tuesday morning. WRDE's Mallory Metzner reports.
OCEAN CITY, Md. (WRDE/NBC News) — Police in Ocean City, Maryland are investigating after a body was reported in the surf around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Ocean City Police Department says a public works crew was surveying the beach due to the recent oil spill in Delaware when they spotted the body and called 911.
At least one guest at a nearby hotel also spotted the body.
“I had a lady that was checking out, probably right around 7:30, 7:40 this morning,” said Commander Hotel Guest Services Manager Tanya Hill. “She came down. She was quite hysterical. I asked what was wrong and she said she had gone out on her balcony this morning, had some coffee and saw the body wash up on shore.”
A portion of the beach was closed for several hours as the body was removed.
Investigators say the body is that of a white adult male and that there were no known missing persons in the area at the time the investigation began.
