Boating accident in Mercer County remains under investigation after man’s death

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. – A boat collision that occurred July 4 on Herrington Lake remains under investigation after one man died and another was hospitalized.

According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, a preliminary investigation found two boats collided, including a wake boat operated by 34-year-old Cody Casey of Harrodsburg and a pontoon boat operated by 58-year-old Alex Svintozelskiy of Nicholasville.

Officials say a passenger of the pontoon boat, 25-year old Nazar Svintozelskiy of Nicholasville, was ejected into the water.

His body was recovered from Herrington Lake on Monday, July 6. The cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, Kentucky.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Svintozelskiy family during this extremely difficult time,” said Col. Jeremy McQueary, director of the Law Enforcement Division for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. “We pray for continued healing and recovery for Alex and express our condolences for the loss of his son.”

This investigation is being led by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Law Enforcement Division in collaboration with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. UPDATE July 7 at 3:42 p.m. 

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. – The body of a man killed in a boating accident on Herrington Lake in Mercer County has been located, according to Mercer County Fire District.

On Monday, the agency stated search teams had found 25-year-old Nazar Svintizelskiy dead Monday at approximately 3:50 p.m. in 184 feet of water.

His body has been transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy, K105 states.

Additional information has not been released at this time.

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. – Four people are injured, and one person is missing after a boat crash in Mercer County.

According to the Mercer County Fire District, crews responded to a boat collision on Herrington Lake along Herrington Woods Road Saturday evening.

Multiple units were deployed to Pandora Marina, where one victim with traumatic injuries and three others with injuries were located. The victim with traumatic injuries was flown to a Lexington hospital for treatment.

One victim is still missing as of Sunday afternoon.

Rescue crews and specialized rescue crews from Ohio remain on the lake searching for the victim, according to MCFD.

The investigation is ongoing.
