Biden: Trump “Thoroughly Unfit For Office”

President-elect Joe Biden says Congress and Vice President Mike Pence should decide if President Trump should remain in power until his inauguration, but say his actions surrounding the riots on Capitol Hill show Mr. Trump is "thoroughly unfit for office."

(NBC News) — Growing outrage over President Trump’s role in inciting deadly violence at the Capitol Wednesday is fueling the very real possibility of a lightning-fast impeachment.

House Democrats are drafting articles and could take action as early as next week.

“He provoked an insurrection and an attack against the United States Capitol,” says Virginia’s Representative Abigail Spanberger.

“He is capable of doing anything and we do have to hold him accountable,” says Florida’s Representative Val Demings.

At least one Senate Republican, Ben Sasse, says he would consider articles of impeachment.

“The president has disregarded his oath of office,” Sasse says.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has told colleagues she spoke to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff about preventing an “unstable president” from “ordering a nuclear strike.”

There is also escalating concern about how President Trump might use or abuse the powers of his office, including his ability to pardon supporters, family members, or himself.

“What this president has done is rip the Band-Aid all the way off to let the country know who he is, and what he’s about, and how thoroughly unfit for office he is,” President-elect Joe Biden said when asked if Trump should be removed.

In a video posted to Twitter, President Trump stopped short of a full concession but promised an orderly transition of power.

He also condemned the violent rioters, who even some of his closest allies admit he encouraged at a rally immediately before the attack.

Five people, including a Capitol Police officer, died in the violence.
