BGPD works to recruit new officers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department is launching its official recruitment campaign this year and is now accepting applications to join the department.

The department is looking for someone who is honest, hard-working and personable.

Deputy Chief Penny Bowles said Police Chief Doug Hawkins hires for character and trains for skill meaning the department can teach an officer to be better at the job, but it cannot teach someone to have better character.

The department has a take-home car benefit as well as insurance benefits and a retirement plan.

Bowles said working with the community and meeting new people is part of what she loves most about the job.

The deadline to apply for the current job openings is Sept. 22.
