BGPD Junior Police Academy connects local youth to law enforcement

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Local kids ages 10 to 13 years old are getting a sneak peek into the lives of our police officers.

The Junior Police Academy is in full swing this week at the Bowling Green Police Department.

JPA kids participate in real-world activities like working with a detective, hanging out with a K-9 and solving clues to a crime.

A variety of reasons lead each child to join the academy, but the presence of a law enforcement officer in their lives already was a big reason for many.

“My dad was a cop here for a long time, and I just think it would be really fun,” said Kenzie Houghton.

The officers hope to teach the next generation about law enforcement with the academy.
