BGPD hosts scam prevention seminar
Bowling Green, Ky. – With the rise of scam reports across south-central Kentucky, the Bowling Green Police Department hosted a seminar aimed at educating the community on how to protect themselves against scammers.
The BGPD invited guest speakers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Service One Credit Union to present, followed by a Q&A session.
The speakers offered advice on different scam strategies to watch out for and safety precautions to take if you encounter a scam.
Officers emphasized the importance of these educational events in the fight against fraud.
“We just kind of wanted to be able to educate the people in our community just so they can protect themselves from these scams, because the scammers are getting better and better at what they do, and more and more convincing, especially with the technology that we have now,” said Kendra Woodard, community resource officer with the BGPD. “So I just want them to be able to look for the warning signs in order to protect themselves and avoid becoming a victim.”
Officials also said if you suspect someone is impersonating a law enforcement officer, hang up and contact the agency directly to verify the call.
They also advised reaching out to IC3.gov or calling 1-800-CALL-FBI if you feel you have already been scammed to find out what your next steps should be.
