Barren River Lake now at summer pool level, opening beach dates pending
STAFF REPORT, Glasgow News 1

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. (Glasgow News 1) – Although Barren Rive Lake is officially at normal summer pool level, visitors may need to wait a little longer to swim at the lake’s beaches.
According to a report by Glasgow News 1, the lake is “552 feet above mean sea level,” which is considered the summer pool level allowing recreational activities.
Low water remained an issue for an extended part of the summer for the portion that would allow open beaches.
According to Glasgow News 1, in particular, Sunset Beach at the lake has been closed the entire summer due to previous low water levels.
Other swimming spots were also shut down for safety reasons, Glasgow News 1 says.
However, Glasgow News 1 further reports lake managers have not yet announced an official schedule for the opening of Sunset Beach or the other swimming areas.
For now, the report says this means the public has to wait for the official announcement from lake management.
In addition, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers confirmed the Port Oliver and Quarry Road recreation areas are expected to close temporarily during maintenance, according to Glasgow News 1.
Glasgow News 1 reports the corps stated both areas are expected to close the night of Sunday, July 19. That project is reportedly weather dependent and may take several days.
The report says visitors should avoid closed areas and follow posted signs and barricades, actions that could help keep visitors and crews safe.
