Barren County Sheriff’s Office issues online safety reminder to parents, guardians

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Barren County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the community to stay aware of online risks for children during summer break.
According to the sheriff’s office, internet predators are aware school is out for the summer, meaning they could take advantage of increased screen time.
Authorities say parents and guardians may also be at work or occupied while children are online.
The sheriff’s office advises parents to know which apps, games and websites children are using, to talk to children about online safety and dangers of communicating with strangers, to review privacy settings and parental controls on devices and to encourage children to tell a trusted adult if someone online makes them uncomfortable or asks for personal information.
If you suspect suspicious online activity involving a child, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.
