Armed man charged with assault after alleged altercation at Franklin fast-food restaurant

FRANKLIN, Ky. – A man is facing several charges after police say he possessed a firearm during an altercation inside a Simpson County fast food restaurant.

According to the Franklin Police Department, officers responded to a report of an armed person inside Burger King on Nashville Road just before midnight Friday.

After arriving at the scene, officers say they located two men fighting. Officers detained both individuals.

FPD says 43-year-old Jason M. Daugherty entered Burger King and began a verbal confrontation with another male customer.

Daugherty allegedly left the restaurant, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, and returned possessing a firearm. The other male allegedly held off Daugherty, who lost possession of the firearm and a pocket knife.

Officers arrested Daugherty and charged him with menacing, second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree terroristic threatening, possession of marijuana, first-degree assault, and first-degree wanton endangerment.

FPD says no serious injuries were reported following the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
