Pentagon to divert $1 billion to border wall

(NBC News) The Pentagon is shifting $1 billion away from other projects to fund President Trump’s border wall.

The president’s emergency order could ultimately divert more than $4-billion from as many as 150 defense projects across the country and around the world.

Lawmakers are challenging the process, and the plan.

“To look at the Pentagon as a piggy bank slash slush fund where you can go in a grab money when you need it really undermines the credibility of the entire DOD budget,” Rep. Adam Smith said Tuesday.

The first transfer moves funds from Homeland Security to the Army Corps of Engineers to begin infrastructure upgrades and build 57 miles of 18-foot-high fencing in El Paso, Texas and Yuma, Arizona.
