Warren County Regional Jail to begin program to help inmates find jobs
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Non-violent offenders at the Warren County Regional Jail will soon have a new tool to help them find jobs.
At Friday morning’s Fiscal Court meeting, Warren County Jailer, Stephen Harmon, announced a partnership between the detention facility and the Kentucky Career Center.
The Career Center will soon begin collaborating with felony-friendly employers. Representatives from those businesses will then go to the jail and conduct interviews with inmates who are near the completion of their sentence.
Harmon believes there’s no other program like this in the state. He said the goal is to reduce recidivism.
“I think everyone involved, the tax payers at home, families, inmates and correctional staff, would agree that being able to have employment when you get out of jail is paramount in your plan for reentry in being successful in the community,” said Harmon.
Harmon said there are currently 200 to 300 non-violent inmates at the jail.
He expects the program to kick-off sometime in the next 30 days.
