Protests continue for anti-maskers in Warren County, police called to scene after driver scares crowd
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At around 9:30 Wednesday morning, protesters were at the Warren County Board of Education on Lovers Lane protesting the recent mask mandate.
Some children were in attendance and parents told News 40 they planned to pull their kids out of school so they didn’t have to wear a mask all day.
The protest remained peaceful, except for one man who heckled the News 40 reporter on the scene.
Other protesters stepped in and told him to walk away and apologized for his unkind words and tone and continued to speak with News 40 about their thoughts and opinions.
At around 10:45 a.m., a man driving a white Camaro drove by at a high rate of speed several times back and forth.
Police were called after a handful of times of the man passing by, provoking protesters.
Shortly after police were notified and on their way, one protester hopped in his truck and waited for the Camaro to return.
Once it drove back by, the truck shielded the crowd driving alongside of the Camaro, keeping the Camaro in the left lane, away from protesters, children, and the News 40 reporter on the scene.
They both proceeded to stop in the middle of the road and blocked traffic.
Traffic was blocked for under a minute, when, according to a protester, the man in the Camaro threatened to shoot the man in the truck.
One protester ran into the road after the Camaro at one point.
That information has not yet been officially confirmed by police and the News 40 reporter on the scene was unable to hear the threat from where she stood.
Police showed up shortly after the traffic began moving.
The truck then followed the Camaro several miles.
The truck driver and Camaro returned to the scene and both spoke with a Bowling Green Police Officer and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
No one was injured.
One protester said during Beshear’s press conference, he said kids should not being used as a political statement and that kids were gift from God.
“I absolutely agree with him. They are, but the difference is they’re not his property either and God gave my children to me for me to protect them and do what’s best for them and that’s why I’m here today, because I think putting masks on children is very wrong and it’s counterproductive to what we’re trying to accomplish as a country,” said Elizabeth Douchette.
Another driver drove by and yelled at protesters, “I hope your kids get sick.”
Many people drove by and honked showing support while others “booed” and called the protesters “idiots”.
After police showed up, many of the protesters left and everyone was gone by noon.
