Parents protest Warren County Schools Mask mandate

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- After a Monday night announcement by Warren County School District superintendent Rob Clayton requiring students and staff to wear masks in schools beginning Wednesday, parents organized a protest outside of the school system’s central office Tuesday morning.
Parents gathered to peacefully protest the mask mandate outside of the Warren County School District Central office. Warren County students must wear masks in school regardless of vaccination status. Parents had American Flags, as well as signs that read “Let our children breath (sic),” and “unmask our children.”
The face mask requirement will continue until the Labor Day weekend at which time, the requirement will be revisited. The CDC mandate requiring face masks on buses will continue as well.
Clayton has scheduled a press conference at noon Tuesday to discuss the decision.
In a statement released to the media Monday night Clayton said the decision is based on the desire to keep students attending school in person.
“Recently, our local community has seen a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases, especially among those who are not vaccinated,” Clayton said in the statement. “In an effort to keep our students in school for in-person learning five days per week, WCPS will require face masks for students and staff inside our facilities regardless of vaccination status beginning this Wednesday, August 11th.
“The face mask requirement will continue until the Labor Day weekend (September 3rd) at which time, the requirement will be revisited. The CDC mandate requiring face masks on buses will continue as well. This decision comes after a careful review of current school and community conditions, as well as the continuous collaboration with local and state health officials,” Clayton said.
