Chances to win one million dollars announced
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kroger is working to motivate more Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Through the newly launched #CommunityImmunity Giveaway, Kroger Health will provide customers the opportunity to win life-changing prizes like one of five $1 million checks or one of 50 groceries for a year.
The giveaway started Thursday and runs through July 10 with winners selected weekly.
The giveaway was created to help promote the federal initiative to have at least 70% of U.S. adults receive their first COVID-19 vaccine dose by July 4.
How the #CommunityImmunity Giveaway Works:
- Between June 3, 2021 and July 10, 2021, Kroger Health is giving away $5 million, reflecting a $1 million winner each week for five weeks, as well as 50 “groceries for a year,” ten each week for five weeks, each valued at $13,000 (which is the equivalent of $250 a week for 52 weeks).
- To enter, participants must be 18 years of age or older, and legally reside and physically be located in one of the 50 United States or Washington, D.C.
- To enter online, entrants must receive or have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at a Kroger Family Company location or by a Kroger Family Company healthcare professional at an off-site event.
- To schedule a vaccine, visit Kroger.com.

- Additionally, The Kroger Family of Companies will continue to award a one-time payment of $100 to associates who become fully vaccinated.
“In the beginning it was kind of like, oh my goodness when is it my turn, or I can’t get an appointment, as soon as appointments opened up they were filled. But now it’s easy to get an appointment and out pharmacies offer walk-ins. You can just walk in to your Kroger Pharmacy and get a COVID vaccine. Appointments are no longer necessary. And so, it’s easy,” said Melissa Eads, a spokesperson for Kroger.
In addition, Governor Andy Beshear invited Kentuckians to get a COVID-19 vaccine and enter for a Shot at a Million – the state’s new vaccine incentive drawing.
“This is a lifesaving and now possibly life-changing opportunity,” said Gov. Beshear. “You can get your shot of hope and then enter for a shot at $1 million or a shot at one of 15 full scholarships – both protecting you from this deadly virus and possibly transforming your future.”
The Governor announced two types of drawings that permanent residents of Kentucky can enter to win, at shotatamillion.ky.gov, if they have received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.
- $1 million: Kentuckians 18 years old and older who have received at least their first dose of a Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, may enter to win one of three $1 million drawings.
- Full Scholarship: Kentuckians 12 to 17 years old who have received at least their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine may enter to win one of 15 full scholarships to a Kentucky public college, university, technical or trade school, which includes tuition, room-and-board and books.
“This initiative underscores two critical points in our state’s recovery: higher education matters and so does health and safety,” said Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education President Aaron Thompson, who joined Gov. Beshear in the Capitol Rotunda for the announcement. “If we want to take advantage of the pent up demand in our economy, now is the time to get vaccinated and trained up for the next generation of jobs. I want to thank Gov. Beshear for advancing both of these priorities.”
Entry begins Friday.
Only one entry per person will be accepted, and each entry is eligible for all future drawings. However, winners will be removed from eligibility for future drawings.
