Kentucky reports 588 new COVID-19 cases, 5 more deaths

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky has reported 588 new coronavirus cases and five more virus-related deaths. The state said Wednesday that more than 120 of the new cases involved Kentuckians age 18 and younger. Gov. Andy Beshear has focused attention on the importance of getting young people vaccinated since youngsters ages 12 to 15 became eligible for the COVID-19 shots. Overall, more than 1.9 million Kentuckians have gotten at least one shot of the vaccine. The statewide rate of positive cases is 2.77%.
