Irish watchdog opens another Facebook probe, over data dump
LONDON (AP) — Ireland’s privacy regulator says it has opened an investigation into Facebook after data on more than 500 million users was reportedly found dumped online. The Data Protection Commission said Wednesday that it decided to start investigating following “multiple international media reports” about the data dump. The regulator said it suspects the case involves a breach of stringent European Union privacy rules. News reports about the data set said it was found on a website for hackers and contained information on 533 million users from more than 100 countries, including names, phone numbers and birthdates. Facebook said it’s “cooperating fully” with the investigation.
