City, county declare state of emergency
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green Mayor Todd Alcott and Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon signed a joint City/County Local State of Emergency Declaration.
Warren County Courthouse and County Clerk, PVA and administrative offices will remain closed Tuesday due to the winter storm that has left county roadways covered with ice and snow.
The winter mix and bitter cold have most roadways hazardous. Temperatures are expected to get down to 12 degrees with wind chill down to zero.
Road crews have been working 24 hours to plow to clear the snow and ice, and salt roads and bridges.
Anyone who can stay home is urged by officials to do so.
Road crews can do their jobs clearing and treating roadways with fewer vehicles sliding around. Fewer accidents and fewer cars stuck in wind drifts and ice, will help first responders and law enforcement
For those who must drive, please drive slowly and cautiously, take your time, leave plenty of space between your car and the car in front of you.
All county departments with personnel who provide essential services, like road crews, law enforcement, jail, first responders and emergency personnel will be working continuously to serve the citizens.
The emergency declaration allows local government the opportunity to apply for federal aid if the costs of this weather emergency exceed $300,000.
With more snow coming on Thursday, Alcott says, the state of emergency has not yet been rescinded.
